Waking up to sausage on a Saturday morning, is a memory that fills all of the senses. This recipe sends that home. Everything is better homemade.
PrintBreakfast Sausage
gluten free, dairy free, and no processed sugar
Ingredients
1 lb ground pork
1 tablespoon cooking oil of choice
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage
1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
1 1/2 teaspoons crushed fennel seeds
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
MIX Combine all dry seasonings in a small bowl
COMBINE In a large mixing bowl combine pork, maple syrup, and seasonings. You can also skip the extra dish and do this directly in your pan. Just be sure to mix it together will as you cook it.
COOK Heat a large skillet with your cooking oil and add in the meat mixture. Stir and break up the meat as it cooks. It is done when the sausage starts to brown. Browning will give it the best flavor and texture. From here you can add it to scrambled eggs, breakfast casserole, or a breakfast skillet. Enjoy!
Notes
GROUND PORK You want to choose ground pork with no seasonings. If you are unable to find it, you can select a pork cut of your choice and ask your butcher to grind it for you.
